Mixmag double page spread 5

I decided to do one last double page spread analysis. This double page spread is from a mixmag magazine and is very conventional. I've started to notice that most DJ magazines have the article on one side of the page and the artists image on the other side. I don't think I like the cross over idea, where the image goes across both pages which is good as my magazine will look more conventional. As with all the other double page spreads that I have reviews I like the bar at the top and the large title that comes with the article. I also find the fact that most of the double page spreads I have reviewed have some sort of Question and answer section to it. With this particular magazine the double page spread is an entire question and answer section other than the introduction. I might use this when it comes to my own double page spread but i'm not 100% sure as of yet.

DJ Mag double page spread 4

Yet again another double page spread analysis and again its DJ Mag. I'm becoming increasingly interested in DJ Mag as I am a huge fan of EDM/Electro music myself and that's the type of music DJ mag talks about. I love the way they lay out there double page spread as well. They have the image of the DJ/artist on one side of the page and generally have the name of the artist or the name of the article on the same side as the image. They then add a small quote next to the artist to show someone has actually talked about them and they're "fame". This instantly insinuates that the DJ is famous. They then have the other half of the page full of text and generally have a Question and Answer column from they're previous magazine added to the double page spread. This adds something to the page that most other double page spreads don't have. As its still a full article but people have asked questions on the DJ and the DJ has answered them himself.

Looking Into Font Types

Looking into name ideas I decided to look up a bunch of adjectives online. I didn't see many that appealed to me when I was looking through them. I came across the word "hooked" when reading through another DJ magazine. at the time it took allot of thought but I think i'm going to choose this word as the name of my magazine. Simply because it attracts the audience and makes them "Hooked". After choosing a name I thought about which font to use for the title of my magazine. I experimented with quite a few different fonts in bold, black and white, This was to first see what looked well in what color. I then tried to decide what I wanted my font to look like. Do I want a sharp crisp look with a few edges cut off or a smooth curvy edged font. I decided to ask some of my friends who enjoy reading DJ Mag-
azines and they told me they preferred the straight edged fonts. But in my opinion I still couldn't decide between the second and the fourth font (on the left). This is because I thought both fonts looked "DJ magziney" I like the way the letter O's connect with one another on the curved font but I like the way the letters look as though they should be touching but aren't on the straight edged font. I came to the conclusion that the straight edged font is the one I am going to go for. Simply because its what my target audience suggested.

DJMag Double Page Spread 3

Welcome back! As you can see im reviewing another double page spread. This article is very interesting as the title links in extremely well with the image. The way the lemon is placed in front of the artists face which adds an amount of curiosity as to who the artist is. This is quite unconventional of a club/dance music magazine as the main focus tends to primarily be on the artist. This will be a large attraction to the artist and the article as people will want to know more about him/her. I do like this idea however I don't think I will be implementing it into my own music magazine. This is simply because I want my readers to be able to know what the article is about before having to read anything. I also think it look allot more professional and formal if the article show the DJ rather than trying to make members of the public read on.

DJmag Double Page Spread 2

I'm back with another, yes another piece of research! This double page spread is from the famous electro music magazine DJmag. It stars a fairly famous DJ Ferry Corsten, The use of a famous DJ being on the double page spread of the magazine bring a large audience to the magazine, (People who enjoy listening to Ferry Corsten). This also gets the DJs reputation up as he is starred in an extremely popular magazine. I will pretend that the artist I have on my double page spread is extremely famous by  making some facts and statistics up about him/her. I am also going to make him look smart but fairly casual and hopefully get a good image of him/her behind some decks or facing a crowd!

Mixmag Double Page Spread Research

Good afternoon guys and gals! So I finished my contents page research yesterday and now I'm going to start my research on double page spreads. The first decent double page spread I found was a mixmag spread. The article is definitely what my target audience is all about, bright colors, massive crowds, people shouting and general messing about. I like the way the image spreads across both pages and is sort of split up and it gives a sort of "cut and paste" look to it. Although I like the way the page looks I think i'd rather have an artist on the double page spread. I think this would make the spread look allot better than this one as it would be about the artist rather than a problem with "music". This could open up allot of different images I could take, a close up to show the concentration and professionalism of the DJ, a wide/long shot to show the crowd from behind a DJ, a medium shot showing the DJ at his decks. I don't know what to do as of yet as I am still figuring out how to form a crowd together and take a picture of a large amount of people!!

Mixmag contents page 5

For my final piece of research into contents pages I decided to go back to mixmag. This is because Mixmag have a similar target audience as I do and I love the way they lay out there magazines, especially the more modern ones. Again mixmag have gone for the one larger image dominating the page with one column of text and a small row of text at the bottom of the page. I love the type of font that has been used on this contents page, especially the number 110 that is lying on top of the image. It just fits so well with the type of genre mixmag is about. I think I will be using a similar font for the page numbers I put on top of my images, this is because it creates a fun looking vibe to the page that normal text doesn't, especially with it being so big. Again Mixmag have made the main section in there magazine called "VIP" and they have made the color of the page numbers golden, I love this feature as it makes the page seem more "expensive" and it creates a sense of something special when you read/look at the page which is why I think I am going to use a similar font color for the page numbers!

Q contents page 4

Another contents page I found was for a completely different type of magazine too the one I am making. I decided to give it a quick look because I can still use some of the features that this contents page has to offer. I like the way Q have put there logo on the contents page more than once. I think they did this because it fits with the color scheme, and whilst its rather noticeable it doesn't take up to much space on the page. I also like how Q have made a section dedicated to a certain band. This will attract a very niche audience as allot of the magazine will be about one particular band rather than a group of bands. I don't think I will be using this idea in my magazine however simply because it differs from DJ magazines because in my personal opinion I want to know about a range of different DJs not just one! The house style and the way the page is designed looks smart and formal and it fits with the target audience Q is trying to attract. This is also what DJ magazines do and its what I am planning on doing with my own magazine!

DJmag contents page 3

Good afternoon everyone! I'm back with another contents page to talk about! This one is a DJmag contents page, whilst looking at the different selections of content pages linked to DJ magazines I'm starting to realise that they're all fairly similar. Bright colors, Loads of colorful and packed images and some informal language. This is what makes up a DJ magazine on pretty much every page. I like the bar at the top of the page, it might not mean anything but its a cool decoration. I like how that bar is then repeated throughout the contents page to put the magazine into different sections. As I have said in other reviews I am thinking about implementing this "feature" into my own magazine, this is because I like the idea of splitting the magazine into different sections such as: VIP, Music, Artists, Festivals etc. This is because it instantly lets the reader pick the section they want to flick too. I also like how DJmag have added page numbers to the images, showing off the most important parts of the magazine.

Mixmag Contents Page 2

Good Afternoon everyone! Today I venture further into my contents page research. For my second piece of research I am looking at a mixmag contents page. There is allot about this contents page which I would love to implement into my own magazine but there is also allot of changes I would make. First of all I love the house style that mixmag have went for. In many of mixmags magazines they use the black background with white text. They also have the "golden" colored page numbers which makes the page seem more "expensive". I like how the logo has been placed in the top left of the page. Out of the way of the important text and image but also highly visible, giving mixmag a larger reputation. In the bottom left hand corner of the page there is a special offer which is probably shown on the front of the magazine as well. The use of bright colors in the image links in with the genre of music the magazine is all about. The "party" lifestyle is usually related to electro, dance, dubstep, Drum and bass etc. music which is why mixmag have chosen to use this image. I like how the most important sections of the magazine have been sectioned off on the right side of the page under the "VIP" category, where as the smaller parts of the magazine are at the bottom with smaller bold headlines than the "VIP" section. I think when I am creating my magazine I will implement the different colored page numbers when creating the menu of my contents. I will also put the magazine name/logo in the top left/right or the bottom left/right to make my company stand out more.

DJ Mag Contents Page 1

I'm back again! This time with a contents page for DJmag! I decided that once I had reviewed/researched front covers I would move onto contents pages. Personally this front cover looks fantastic for my target audience, this becomes apparent when you look at the color scheme. I like how the magazine is split into 5 different sections: Upfront, Raving mad, Music, Tech and finally Features. These 5 sections are then split up into smaller sections which makes the contents page look allot more ordered and "cool"! I think I might implement this idea into my own contents page simply because I like the idea of it and I think it looks allot more professional and smart.

Music Mag Research - Mixmag 4

Morning people! I decided to do another piece of research to do with music magazines! I decided to another mixmag magazine, this was because mixmag do perfect magazines for my target market (teens - young adults). This is because of the vibrant colors, the use of a very famous artist (deadmau5) and the use of bold "cool" font. The use of vibrant colors link into my target market and the people who enjoy this music because of the type of music. If you go to a concert with this sort of music playing, almost everyone will be wearing something bright and colorful, this is why magazines use those colors. Mixmag also make it apparent that the magazine someone is viewing is mixmag. They do this by making there logo/heading the main part of the front cover. I might steal this idea but I might do something else, I was thinking about making the artist the main part of the front cover to increase interest in the magazine and bring a larger audience to the magazine.

Music Mag Research - Contents Page 3

Hope everyones doing okay out there! This is the contents page on a well known DJ mag, there are many features that I want to use in my own magazine! Each section of the magazine is split up into different bright colours which will attract the target audience I am looking for. I like how they have only outlined the main sections of the magazine with images rather than have loads of different images dotted around the page, I will be using this in my magazine contents page to show off the proffesionalism of the magazine because in my opinion it looks pretty professional... I like how the subheading has a block of colour around it making it stand out from the rest of the text. I also think that the way the little headings have been sectioned by lighter colours is a great eye catching feature.
